sue ezell leadership award
(sela)
LOOK around! Do you know an outstanding member? Chances are you do. Take
a moment to recognize and honor a dedicated, hardworking member whose
commitment has made a difference in your unit and nominate them for
the Sue Ezell Leadership Award.
SUE EZELL, a paraprofessional at the St. Cloud Tech High School, was one of the “Founding Members” of MSEA. She was a strong believer in employee rights such as collective bargaining, member representation, pay equity, member dignity and respect. Finding these important rights missing in St. Cloud, she helped organize her co-workers and formed a new bargaining unit. She soon turned her attention to the plight of school workers throughout Minnesota. Finding other like-minded individuals, Sue and many others banded together to form MSEA. Sue served as a Director on MSEA’s Board for several years as well as two terms as President (1987-88 and 1989-90). Her leadership was a guiding light during MSEA’s formative years and by her example she inspired a new generation of MSEA leaders. Sue was taken from us to soon - while serving as MSEA President Sue lost her battle with breast cancer and passed away on December 12, 1990. The MSEA Board of Directors renamed the newly created MSEA Member of the Year award in her honor. |
