The recent Core Training Building Our Base focused on the nuts and bolts of unions in the workplace: resolving disputes, grievance handling, bargaining strategies and mobilizing around negotiations. This workshop tackled basic issues faced by unit leaders and members, such as:
What are my legal rights & responsibilities?
What's the difference between a grievance and a gripe?
Has "just cause" been met for discipline?
How are negotiation proposals developed?
What constitutes a "past practice"?
We hope this workshop served as a good introduction for our first-timers or a good refresher for our more "seasoned" members. A big thanks to those who gave up a little of their time to join us in Bemidji or Mankato. And we look forward to seeing more new faces next year!
