MSEA Lobby Day Recap

MSEA and SEIU members on the Capitol steps

2.20.13  MSEA was excited to team with SEIU (Service Employees Int'l Union) this year for our 2013 Lobby Day on February 20th.  

In the morning, members gathered at the Carpenter's Hall in St. Paul to hear legislative updates concerning the Affordable Care Act, Minimum Wage, Homecare and School Funding.

Members then broke up into teams, practiced how to lobby, grabbed a box lunch and were shuttled over to the Capitol to meet with their legislators.

 We wrapped the day with a rally in the rotunda to hear comments from Governor Mark Dayton, Speaker of the House Paul Thissen, Sen. Majority Leader Tom Bakk, State Rep. Patti Fritz and several other legislators.  

Members from both unions including MSEA member Ronda Renee Koch (Windom para) also shared their personal stories highlighting the need for legislative action and support.  Nice job, Ronda Renee!  

Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules  to join us at the Capitol!  It was fantastic to see members wearing their MSEA maroon t-shirts, networking with SEIU members and getting MSEA’s name out on the political landscape as a viable and important player in Minnesota politics.
