MSEA’s Political Committee is up and running for 2009-10. The Committee will meet on a monthly basis throughout the year.

Political Committee Notes

December 4, 2009

Present: Sue, Evan, Cindy, Jeff, Pat, Angie, Christina and John

Not present:  Mary and Bruce 

DOTH: 2/11/10 

  • Crowne Plaza Hotel- 5 rooms for members coming 250+ miles
  • Board Members and Political Committee Members have rooms
  • Agendas printed and handed out to members
  • Information Meeting 2/10/10 starting at 5:30 p.m.
  • T-shirts- we will use the long sleeve T-shirts from the fall trainings
  • Buttons-?~ a lot of positive feedback from members that went last year… Hopefully they will help get more people excited to join this year!
  • Divided into issue groups this year- Education, Health and Human Services, Local Gov. and public safety
  • People are welcome to tour the capital that day, if time allows
  • Registration online - deadline 1/29/2010
  • Continue to grow the number of people in attendance-let our members know they are important and make a difference!
  • Message all members must be the same

 

I94 Bus

  • Cindy was able to get us a contact.
  • Cost $1600
  • Stops at Moorhead, Fergus Falls, Alexandria, St. Cloud
  • Riders will receive information from morning session at motel on the bus

Union/Non-union driver

  • Cindy will talk to some drivers in Moorhead and see if they are interested in driving
  • Christina will contact AFSCME Council 65 ED to see how they feel if we have a non-union drive

Snacks/coffee on bus-work in progress

Legislative updates

  • How to get our members interested?
  •    Talk with Grassroots about helping us increase member awareness/involvement

Discussed inviting Grassroots to March Meeting.  This would allow Board Members to stay and listen to the information.

Voters Rights Coalition-MSEA had joined

Webpage- John is working on this-new software has been ordered.  May talk to the Board and see what they would like to see on the webpage.

Caucus

  • 2/2/2010
  • Reasons to participate-learn about the candidates, issues…..educational funding, etc…

Next meeting: Jan. 16 @ noon in St. Paul
