MSEA DIRECTOR - Region 2
Sue Ames
Term Expires: June 30, 2010

Position in District: MSBCLO Para Educator
District Employee Since: 2003
Leadership Roles: Chief Steward, Negotiation Team,
Building Rep, Unit Executive Board, Delegate, MSEA Political Committee
Goals: To continue to educate our members on not
only the tangible benefits such as wages, insurance, pensions, but
also on the strength and power of Unions. To be part of the development
of a 5-year plan that would stress communication–knowledge–unity–and
fiscal responsibility. The goal of this plan would be to empower
all our members to stand up and become a voice in the future of our
districts, communities, state and nation. MSEA has 6,000 loud, proud
voices that can make a difference.
Personal Strengths: For 12 years I served as the
Recording Secretary for Local United Steelworkers 14L. This has given
me an excellent understanding of unions and their purpose. I spent
2 years on the Western Technical College Board of Directors. This
afforded me the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge on the importance
of a defined plan for an organization’s future and how this
can be accomplished through teamwork. I also have experience in the
political arena, having just been named the 2006 Houston Co. DFLer
of the Year. Locally, I am involved with the Concerned Citizens of
Cedar Drive, a neighborhood group working on cleaning up crime in
our area. On Sunday, April 22nd I am a panel member of the “Community
Conversation on Universal Healthcare” forum to be held in La
Crescent. Last, but not least, I am hardworking, organized, a good
listener and a seasoned public speaker.
Comment: I feel I can make a positive contribution
to MSEA.
