Organizing

Why Organize?

  • To protect current wages and benefits.
  • To pursue future wage and benefit goals.
  • To amplify your voice in the workplace.
  • To magnify your voice at the bargaining table.

Why MSEA?

MSEA IS:

  • A union of more than 6,000 school employees from over 55 Minnesota school districts.
  • Paraprofessionals, Secretaries, Food Service employees, Technicians, Custodians,
    Interpreters and Bus Drivers.
  • Your voice at the Capitol.
  • A truly democratic union - Run by the members for the good of all the members.
  • A statewide union whose sole focus is public school employees (non-teachers).

MSEA WILL:

  • Assist in bargaining your contract.
  • Enforce your contract by processing grievances and arbitrations.
  • Train unit members and officers.
  • Monitor and lobby for legislation affecting school employees.
  • Provide the highest level of service possible to our members through our qualified staff.

Who determines MSEA’s positions, objectives and actions?
You do. Each member of your group helps determine what issues to address in negotiations. You select a negotiation team to represent the group and each member has a vote on the contract.

At the state level, each group is entitled to send delegates to MSEA’s annual Delegate Assembly. The Delegate Assembly is responsible for all the policies that govern MSEA including the annual budget and the dues schedule. The delegates also elect MSEA’s officers and Board of Directors. The Board meets monthly to carry out the policies of the Assembly.
